"Back To The Blitz" in Barrowland Saturday 17th March 2008. 500 people raised funds of £17,000.00

What a night that was!!!  Not only was it the bigggest event organised by The Glasgow Swing Dance society, it was also the biggest event Poppy Scotland has been involved with. It turned out to be a fantastic partnership, supported by a great committee and their volunteers, too many to mention, but whom without, the event would not have happened. So well done everyone. The support from the Glasgow dancers and dancers from other areas,  non dancers, and young people just out to have a great night with a difference, allowed the charity to pull in a fantastic £17,000.00 for the veterans of the 2nd world war and the veterans of today. The music from the great Frank Curran big band was brilliant, the fantastic internationally renowned Jiving Lindy Hoppers entralled the people with their showcases of Charleston, Tap Dance routine, and Lindy( Jitterbug)  right from the 1920's to the 1940's , it had to be seen to be believed, and the support of Sunny Govan Radio DJ John MacDonald music was right on the button. The Master of Cermonies for the evening Gerry McCulloch STV presenter kept his cool throughout the evening and skillfully negotiated the presentation of the evening's show.

By popular demand the Glasgow Swing Dance society and Poppy Scotland have been asked to stage another event next year in The Barrowland, the date is Saturday 28th March 2009, the theme will be from the 1920,s charleston years, and the prohibition years, so come prepared to hear the police sirens of that time, stay out of trouble is the best advice given.

Keep checking the web site for the update on the artists who will be appearing at this event and for the sale of tickets.

Thanks to everyone who supported the charity, can we do it again?  The charity needs 500 people to take part in the forthcoming event, for the success of the charity.

A big thank you to everyone.

Helen (The Glasgow Swing Dance Society)
